Other Amos Possibilities

Alvin Jennings Northrop 1905 - 1980

Alvin Jennings

  • born Southport, CT 1905
  • Died Fairfield, CT 1980
  • Age ~ 75
  • Profession Engineer

He grew up in Southport in the family home on Pequot Avenue. At some point they were in south norwalk, but I haven't been able to pipoint the dates. His mother, Stella Jennings Northrop died early. Indications are that this death was devastating to their father and he may have suffered from depression in the years between her death and his passing.

Dad never talked much about this period in his life.

His grandmother and uncle Blaine reared the children after the parents died.

I believe it was at this point that Dad built these two pond boats. They are fully rigged vessles with Alvin doing all the rigging and sewing of sails.

The children were brought up in the Methodist Church. The church no longer exists. Mrs. Hayes said that the church burned down. It was located on Pequot Avenue where the parking lot for Trinity now stands.

Records show that Northrops and relatives made up a third to a half of the church at one point.

I foundmention of the church as late as 1910 and probably later.
