Cornwall History below
Top is suspect names in Cornwall.
Looking for why George E Might have been born Cornwall.
This is pretty conclusive of a connection between Enos line with Amos line.
Also note the Brookfield birth of another Elmore within a couple of years.
It is posssible, but unlikely that Amos is a biological child, but
he could have been adopted or foster child or associated by
apprenticeship or religious community.
There is also the question of connection to the William line or to the
children he fostered.
So far the Anna Nehemiah Clark does not appear to be related to the Cornwall Clarks. These guys stayed in New Haven from the first immigrant thru Anna's birth.

WILTON.
This was the first township in the county to be settled. The first settlers were Asa G Sutlief and family, who pitched their tents on section 35, in the month of August, 1854. The next to reach here were S. P. and James E. Child, who arrived Feb. 2, 1855. Chris Scott and family came about ten days later, in February. Others followed and before fall there were some ten families in the township. A precinct election was held in the fall of 1855 at the house of Chris Scott, on the farm now owned by Mr. John Carmody, Sr. The first election precincts were formed regardless of town lines, and the township of Wilton, as it now exists, was not organized until the spring of 1858. The first town meeting was held at the house of Joseph Doty, May 11, 1858. P. C. Bailey was chairman and stated the object of the meeting. Buel Welsh was chosen moderator, and Thomas L. Paige, clerk. On motion of A. J. Woodbury, the township, like the village, was named Wilton. The following were the first township officers; town board, W. W. Robinson, chairman, John Brand, and A. J. Woodbury; town clerk, Tarrant Putnam; assessor, L. Curtis; justices of the peace, J. B. Jackson and P. C. Bailey; overseer of the poor, A. Miller; constables, Peter Van Dyke and L. Curtis.
The first birth was that of a child born to Mr. and Mrs. Plummer in July, 1855. This family soon after removed to Wisconsin, being sick of the country. The first death was that of a child of Mr. and Mrs. William Wells, in the summer of 1856. The first prairie broken was by Asa G. Sutlief, in August, 1854. The first sawmill in the town and county was built by Colonel J. C. Ide. Rev. Mr. Hicks, a Methodist clergyman, in 1856, held the first religious service in the township at the house of. Caleb Northrup, on section 36. The first school house was erected by Mr. E. B. Stearns, in what is now the Carmody, or Brisbane, district, in 1858. It was a frame building standing on the bottom land, half a mile south of the present school house site. The building was afterwards moved with ox teams over the hill to the present site - a move that caused much excitement at the time.
The first Catholic Church built in Wilton stands at the southwestern corner of section 31, where some sixty families - over three hundred people - meet for worship.

Name: Thaddeus Jennings
Birth: 31 AUG 1732
Death: 1812
Note:
From: A Genealogical History of the Jennings Families in England and America Fourth to eighth generation. "Thaddeus Jennings was educated at college in New Haven; he became engaged to Lavinia Burrit, of New Haven, while a student, and afterwards married her. His father took him from college before he finished his course on account of the engagement without his consent. He continued his studies at Greenfield Hill, was a good Greek and Latin scholar, and a great lover of books; after his marriage he accumulated a large library. He lived in the town of Weston, three miles from Greenfield Hill; the last two years of his life he lived with his son Phileman Jennings, one mile from his old homestead. His love for books could never be satisfied. My mother, Mariett Jennings, his granddaughter, was his constant attendant and read to him most of the time the last two years of his life. He died of cancer in 1812, aged eighty years."(*) (*)Jennings Genealogy, manuscript by Francis A. White

From: A Genealogical History of the Jennings Families in England and
America First to third generation.
John Jennings made his will May 12, 1791. He died in 1799, aged ninety-three years. Will presented and proved May 20, 1799.
The tradition of his family descendants is that he had removed to Fairfield in his old age, and when Fairfield was burned, July 7 and 8, 1779, by the British troops under Governor Tryon, his house was the first house burned. It is now claimed by the "Historian of Fairfield," that the first house burned was Isaac Jennings', as John was the son of Isaac Jennings and his father Isaac had been dead many years, he might have been living in the house, as his brother Isaac Jennings was also dead, as shown by his will filed in 1760.

CHAPTER VIII.
JOSHUA OF CONNECTICUT (2234)
In presenting the records of the family of Joshua, the compiler feels that the work he has attempted will be the more nearly complete and the more useful. And inasmuch as it is the first time an effort has been made to bring into one collection, the records of the various families of the Jenning name, he thinks himself fortunate in having received the benefits of the labors of others, whose kindness has permitted him thus to attain the more comprehensive results. For what is here presented concerning the family of Joshua, much credit must be given to Abraham Gould Jennings, of Brooklyn, whose contributions to the American Family Antiquity, by Albert Welles, has been drawn on to the fullest extent. The compiler is largely indebted also to Mr. Francis A. White, of Everett, Washington, for the results of his labor, and the corrections and other matter supplemental to the history as given in American Family Antiquity. From the pen of Mr. White we have the following:
"For many years I have had a desire to trace the lineage of my mother, Mariett Jennings White, and to perpetuate the remembrance of her in my own family and the descendants of her children, I have at this late date prepared the following pages, with valuable assistance from others; and it is most agreeable to me to make special acknowledgment to Mrs. Elizabeth Hubbell Schenck, author of the "History of Fairfield, Conn.," Mrs. Esther Huntington and Miss Hannah Hobart, of Fairfield, Conn., for important aid and assistance. "I have by examination of records, verified the descent of my mother from Joshua Jennings, an Englishman who is first recorded in Hartford, Conn., as having married Mary Williams in that town. * * *" It is from the record Mr. White thus introduces, that we have largely drawn.
From Jennings Geneology, Manuscript, by Francis A. White. "The record of the birth of Joshua Jennings has never been found, and it is not known when he came to this country. From the date of his marriage it is reasonable to suppose that he b. previous to 1620, and that he came to America in one of the many ships loaded with imigrants, between 1630 and 1640. He died in Fairfield, in 1675, and his will was filed and proven in that year. The first record of him is in Hartford, Conn., as having married Mary Williams in that town, Dec. 22, 1647, eleven years after the town was first settled by Rev. Thomas Hooker and his congregation, who separated from the colony at Cambridge, Mass., on account of his disagreement with Rev. John Cotton, in the Antinomian Controversy in 1636. He left Hartford in 1650 with his wife, by ship, and settled in Fairfield. The tradition of his family is that he landed first at what is now called Bridgeport and went to Barlow's Plain. He was an intelligent and industrious man, a worthy citizen, and maintained an excellent reputation. He died in 1675, leaving a good estate to his wife and children."(*)
Quoted in American Family Antiquity, Welles, p. 159 "From Joshua Jennings, who settled at Fairfield, Conn., in 1656 or earlier, and who died in Fairfield in 1674, have descended many families who have done much toward the populating of Fairfield and the adjacent towns; extending the industrial arts of peace and commerce, agriculture and manufactures. The numerous descendants are traced down through all the Probate and Church Records of Fairfield, and the neighboring villages and towns. Green Farms, which was formerly Fairfield, West Parish, is composed largely of people of the name of Jennings. Many of the descendants of Joshua are now (1881) occupying land set out to him when what is known in Green Farms as the 'long lots' were laid out. Much of the property in the northern part of the town of Fairfield, in a section called 'Jennings Woods,' or properly 'Jennings Farm,' was owned by Joshua Jennings. There is not a burying-ground but has its old free-stone of one hundred years ago, and the white marble of today, to the memory of a Jennings. "Their name is associated with thrift and prosperity; honest, industrious and orderly lives; domestic in their habits, or fond of home life; retiring, not seeking publicity. They were also patriotic as the Records show, ready to risk property and life in the defence of their country."

This township was laid out in fifty three allotments, and sold by the
colony at Fairfield in 1738, at fifty pounds per right. The first permanent
settlement was made about 1740, there being this year 13 families in
the town. The first inhabitants were from various parts of the colony,
the greatest number being from Plainfield. These were persons by the
name of Jewett, Spaulding, Barret, Squires, and others. Those by the
name of Allen and Griffin, were from Litchfield; the Fullers and Robertses
from Colchester. There were other persons from Tolland, Norwalk, and
some from Massachusetts. Such a number of persons planted themselves
in the town at once, that they were able to support a minister from
the commencentent of the settlement, In August, 1741, the Rev. Solomon
Palmer was ordained their pastor. "He continued with them in peace
until March, 1754, when on the Sabbath, to the great surprise of the
people, he declared himself an Episcopalian in sentiment. He soon after
went to England, and obtained orders.. He was originally of Branford,
and had his education at Yale College."
Cornwall is situated 38 miles west from Hartford, and 48 northwest
from New Haven; bounded north by Canaan, west by the Housatonic, separating
it from Sharon, east by Goshen, and south by Warren and Kent.
Its average
length from north to south is more than nine miles, and its breadth
about five. The face of the township is hilly and mountainous, but the
soil is fertile and productive, being well adapted both to grain and
grazing. Several minerals have been discovered in this town ; in the
western section, in what is called Mine Mountain, near the Housatonic,
veins of black lead have been discovered in various places; about two
miles south of the principal settlement, a bed of porcelain clay has
been discovered; there are also various indications of iron ore.
The above shows the appearance of the village of South Cornwall, as
seen from the road which passes from Goshen to Sharon. The drawing was
taken from the house of George Wheaton, Esq. on the elevated ground
about one mile N. E. from the Congregational church. There are two mercantile
stores, and about twenty dwelling houses, within half a mile of the
church. The appearance of this village and the surrounding objects,
as seen from the road above mentioned, constitutes one of the most interesting
and striking scenes to be met with in the state. The cheerful appearance
of the church and the little cluster of white painted buildings surrounding
it, at the bottom of a deep valley, is uncommonly pleasing. The mountains
and lofty hills which rise immediately on almost every side, shutting
out in a sense the rest of the world from this apparently retired spot,
present a bold and most striking feature in the landscape. The mountain
seen south of the village is Colt's Foot Mountain, so called it is said
from the circumstance of a colt's foot being found on its summit, which
was probably carried there by some wild animal, as the mountain is almost
inaccessible. This village is the place where the Foreign Mission School
was established in 1818. The building in which the school was kept is
the westernmost in the cluster seen around the church.
This school had
its rise from the attempt to qualify Obookiah, a pious Owyheean youth,
and others, for missionaries to their native lands. Obookiah was brought
to this country in l8&8, and came to New Haven. While here, Samuel
J. Mills, a student in Yale College, and other pious persons, commiserating
his condition, instructed him in the Christian religion. Obookiab soon
became hopefully pious, and strong]y advocated a mission to his countrymen.
Other natives of his island were found, and a school was established
for their benefit at Cornwall. In 1820, the number of pupils in this
school was 29, of whom 19 were American Indians, and 6 from the islands
of the Pacific Ocean. Obookiah sickened d. in Cornwall in 1818.
The following is the inscription on his monument in the village grave
yard.
"In memory of Henry Obookiah, a native of Owyhee. His arrival in this
country gave rise to the Foreign Mission School, of which he was a worthy
member. He was once an Idolater, and was designed for a Pagan Priest;
but by the grace of God, and by the prayers and instructions of pious
friends, he became a Christian. He was eminent for piety and missionary
zeal. When almost prepared to return to his native isle to preach the
Gospel, God took him to himself. in his last sickness, he wept and prayed
for Owyhee, but was submissive. He died without fear, with a heavenly
smile on his countenance and glory in his soul, Feb. 17th, 1818, aged
26."

Geology:
Cornwall consists of mountains and upland farms surrounding a small
central valley. The first settlers avoided the area because of its heavy
stand of pine, which made land clearing difficult.
