So perhaps we've found Amos' father. How does this connect with Rachel Ives and their respective siblings?
How do they meet?
They live in the same
place AND/OR
They have family, direct or extended, who live in the
same place AND/OR
Their work brings them into contact.AND/OR
Given the revolution and post-revolution era, the war
with the raising of militia and various battles brought
Amos' and Rachel's family members into contact.

I speculate that these names came from immediate family members, I looked
for parents, in-laws, relatives who died just before the birth.

It was the census listing
of Aner Ives and Amos Northrop that set me on a search through more of
the Ives Family. It was when I looked futher to Wallingford that the pieces
seemed to fall together.
I still have no birth, christening,
marriage, death or cemetary listings that are verified.
I now believe Rachel belongs
to the Wiliam Ives line going back to the earliest settlers of New Haven: |

Amos Proposition
A Judd Northrop may or not be correct
with birthplace as Chatham NY (just west of Mass) or another NY
location.
It may be that Amos was born/brought
up in CT or just over the border in NY or in another nearby town.
Around the time of the revolution, opportunities for land opened up to the west -- Northwestern CT, New York and further. Some went to invest, some for jobs with their particualr skills some to open up the west with turnpikes and canals.
So far, it seems most of the changes in location for our Northrops was a result of the family connections -- marriages, births ad deaths. |
It looks as if Isaac was born in Newtown/Brookfield
moved to Woodbury. Many of the very large Ives exended family lived
in Wallingford (33 miles or less)and Cheshire (20 miles or less) at the time rather close by.
The Marsh connection brought Joel and Isaac in contact with Dover and Chatham New York. Marsh property purchase probably brought family back to the Kent, CT area.
There is an Isaac Northrop who was involved with the turnpikes and perhaps even canals and a proposed planned city, but it it not clear that this was "our" Isaac. |
